Gill the Group Scout Leader and our Beaver Leaders are Nick (King Louie) our Beaver Leader and Stephen (Shere-khan) our Assistant Beaver Leader, Andrew (Chil), Lorraine (Akela), Nadia (Baloo) and Fiona (Raksha) are our Occasional Helpers.
Every week we gather in lodges to take part in lots of interesting and challenging activities – achieving anything the young person’s set their minds to and having lots of fun along the way. They will get the opportunity to try lots of different fun activities such as hiking, exploring and camping, giving them the chance to experience a range of outdoor activities and develop valuable scouting skills all whilst working towards badges, including the highest awards available to beavers.
Beavers run on a Tuesday for young people between the age of 5 3/4-8 at 17:30-19:00 at the 47th Cardiff Scout Hut, Rear of 177 Cowbridge Rd west, CF5 5TB.
We will occasionally arrange activities/events away from our own hut and run joint events with other sections in the group and other groups, but you would be notified in advance of this.
As a new starter your young person is welcome to attend meetings for four weeks so they can see whether you enjoy it. Once they have decided to join the group, you will need to buy uniform, start paying subs and they will participate in an investor ceremony (which parents/guardian are welcome to attend).
The subs (which are reviewed annually) are £16 per first child £9 for siblings, per calendar (except for August and December) month payable on the 28th of each month. The subs go towards capitation to Scout HQ, the purchase of badges to be awarded and any equipment needed. There may be additional payments for other optional events or activities throughout the year which you will be made are of in advance.
Once your young person is invested, you as a parent atomically become members of the group committee. As with all voluntary organisations we rely heavily on fundraising to enable the scouting activities to be maintained and developed. You will be asked occasionally to help and support these fundraising incentives, making it possible for your young person to get the most from scouting, please don’t leave this to the few, remember many hands make light work.
Our Group Board of Trustees consists of a Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, the Group Scout Leader, all Group Leaders and parent representatives from each section. The group exec meets roughly 3-4 times a year and is responsible for management of group property, fundraising, and the management of the group finance.
