Young Leaders are part of the Explorer scout section who choose to assist at a Beaver Colony, Cub Pack or a Scout Troop, Our Young Leaders are a bunch of go-getting group of young people aged 14 to 14 who:
Week in and week out, they help with the planning and running of the younger sections whilst still working towards their own goals of having fun and achieving the top awards.
The Young Leader’s scheme emerged in the early 21st century from the newly introduced Explorer Scouts programme for 14 to 18-year-olds, which was formally launched in 2002 following six years of reviews looking at the future of the movement and the youth programme. The full scheme launched in 2003, allowing Explorer Scouts and those of a similar age to volunteer with the younger sections as part of the leadership team.
Being outdoors is really important and Young Leaders love to learn new skills, such as camping, survival and cooking as well as the wide range of adventurous activities, anything from abseiling to yachting, all whilst helping with a young section whether that be Beavers, Cubs, Scouts or even a mix of them.
There are a range of badges and awards available for young people to achieve while in the Young Leader Section…
